Text as a line stroke

Postby aristos_1 » Fri Nov 03, 2017 8:30 pm

Hi, i am using inkscape in order to prepare different objects and then i cut them on cnc for sheet metal. But i have a problem when i am cutting text. What can i do to cut text, becouse the stroke goes arround the letters? I want just a simple line stroke as a letter. For example on letter "I" i want a simple path stroke from up to down, and not a stroke arround the "I". Thanks!!!

Hi.

Try Hershey text.
It's at extensions/render/Hershey text...

You're right. I was watching a video tutorial yesterday about Hersey text. I am looking for this in my inkscape menu but i did n't find it. Why? Have I update my inkscape?

You need at least Inkscape 0.91 (Version number: see Help > About). Current version is 0.92.2, though. Downloads available at https://inkscape.org/releases

Thanks a lot for your quick respond. it was really very helpful. I find extensions/render/Hershey text and it is a very useful tool for me but unfortunately i realize a serious problem. It doesn't work on Greek font. Do you know something? Thanks.

Ouaou!!! You're great!!! Thanks a lot. That's what i want!!! Due to the fact that you're an expert in inkscape, i would like to ask one more question. How can i cut a cycle? I don't want to close the cycle, but i want the path goes arround the cycle, and not to be closed just before the cycle closure? Thanks a lot before you answer me!!!!

Glad you find it!

You can select the paths and combine them together (Ctrl+K).
Besides that I'm not sure how exactly arrange the node ordering. You can switch on rendering the path direction and use the visualise path/number nodes extension to get a sense of the path (cycle?). Maybe it's based on z-ordering of the subpaths, so you may also look at the arrange/restack extension. Needs testing.

"cycle" = "circle"??

Draw Circle shape
Path menu > Object to Path
Switch to Node tool
Select one node
Break path at selected node (on the control bar, or find key shortcut via Help menu)

This makes 2 end nodes on top of each other, but not connected. If they should not be on top of each other, then use an arrow key to move one end node by 2 px at a time (or just drag).

<offtopic>κίρκος and κύκλος are both Greek, I just found out, thought the first was more Latin...</offtopic>
