Overcut

Postby Juhis1 » Sun May 27, 2018 4:05 pm

Hi,

I've just installed drag knife to my diy CNC. Everything works perfectly, except weeding.
Cuts are getting just a little short and I need overcut feature. Saving to HPGL can do this, but GRBL accepts only gcode.

What I've found Tux Plot is able to do gcode with overcut settings. Unfortunatele Tux Plot is not free.
Are there any known alternatives or is there some workarounds to get path ends to go bit further?

My combination is:
Xubuntu 14.04 + Inkscape + bCNC + GRBL Arduino.

Draw them longer?

You could make a feature request, for whatever extension you're using. Feature requests are handled like bug reports, here: https://launchpad.net/inkscape

Edit
Out of curiosity, what is "weeding" in CNC?

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

I'm talking about vinyl cutting with CNC machine. Weeding means peeling off cut shapes.
Gcodetools is extension I´m using.
I´m sure there's lot of guys, who are using CNC with drag knife and they are familiar with this problem.
Also I´m sure they have some solution for overcut.
I keep on looking...

Hhm, well the original authors of those gcodetools extensions appear not to be available for support (for a few years now). I'm not sure if they would respond to a feature request or not, but they don't reply to support questions. The Help tab for those extensions gives an address where their forum is, if you wanted to try to make a request for them to provide that feature.

However, given their lack of response, it might be better to make the feature request directly to the Inkscape project (link above). If this is something that affects a lot of Inkscape users, then developers will want to do something.

I don't understand the details of what you're doing, why this "drag knife" is different from other cutting hardware, why it doesn't cut all the way to the end, what's the benefit of using it if it has this problem, why you can't use a hpgl or other format, or any of that. So I just don't have the right kind of knowledge to suggest a workaround, other than just draw the paths longer.

Maybe someone else will have an idea?
