Text based logo creation

Postby luchilucs » Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:30 pm

Hello, guys, I'm new to Inkscape and I'd like to ask you the best approach to create a vectorized version of this logo. In particular, what concepts should I learn and the easiest way to create and later modify the logo, if necessary. (e.g. easy selection of the characters to change their colors).

This is a screenshot of the logo, as you see there are three characters (shaped inside a circle) forming the logo. The characters are "C", "A" and "L".

I would step through the tutorials in the help menu.

I'd then focus on learning the ellipse tool, rectangle tool, path operations (booleans), stroke/fill, guides and snapping.

I'd make circle paths and cut pieces away, and add horizontal/vertical rectangular paths.

I could auto-trace it, but that doesn't provide much learning.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Another option, rather than re-drawing the image using the tools and features which TD suggested, would be to use the Pen/Bezier tool and trace over the raster image. It would take a little less of a learning curve.

If your goal is to learn Inkscape, TD's route would be more fruitful. If your goal is to make a vector version of the logo, manually tracing it would be faster.

Here's a quick/dirty stab at one way to approach the task:

So I am offering a more wonky and irregular take since TD has done the accurate version - less Bauhaus and more my house! Mine is spiral based and a second one using a tapered spiral ... The first outline view shows the spiral and the rectangles used to add and subtract from it

Your mind is what you think it is.

That's nice! Trending away from Art Deco towards Art Nouveau.

tylerdurden, you do the BEST tuts!

I'd use Brynn's method, but to each his own. I would do 3 groups, one for each charater, that way you can color them separately, then group as one. That allows you to ungroup whenever you want and change the colors.
