Gradiant Issues

Postby syednayab » Mon Mar 25, 2013 9:20 pm

Hi

i used illustrator for sometime...and my best capablities in that term were really GRADIANTS which are very soft and have soft transition patterns. (If anyone else has noticed same thing )

i am using inkscape for over a year now..only thing i havnt figured out is " How to get those soft gradiant transitions in inkscpae"

need some suggestions and help...

Which version of inkscape are you using ?

Right now inkscape only supports linear and radial gradients (because svg only suport those two). If/When svg will support other kind of gradient then inkscape will support them (there are some patches waiting that enable gradient meshes)

The way inkscape renders colours between the stops is what makes them look "bad" in my opinion.
By increasing the number of steps, you can make them look better.

any side by side comparison of different rendering of gradient between AI and inkscape ?
maybe it's because of linearRGB vs sRGB http://tavmjong.free.fr/blog/?p=765

Cannot provide a comparison with illustrator, just can depict gradient's flaws.
It shows best when shading a cylinder.

This kind of rendering should be reproduced with five stops like on the left, but you have to add several more and adjusting their colour to mimmick such flowing.
And still, that is not a good solution.

It's not just linear RGB vs sRGB as Bah's improvement addresses, it's that you can't select the interpolation method between stops as is possible in some programs - this example is GIMP obviously...

Inkscape version 0.48.4 r9939

This is something i am expecting...this isnt really possible right now....

http://tavmjong.free.fr/blog/wp-content ... _basic.png

The top row consists of blocks with linear steps in brightness. The bottom row consists of blocks with even steps in sRGB color space. Note the rather large perceived step in brightness in the top row between the two darkest blocks and the rather small difference in the two lightest. How different the blocks look will depend on how your screen is calibrated (or not calibrated).

i will wait for this one to come to Inkscape till then multiple gradiant nodes...i am going to try
