How to draw economics graphs

Postby Pure_Oxygen » Tue Apr 07, 2009 12:23 am

Hello all,

While I was researching software to use for drawing economics graphs for my university essay, I stumbled upon Inkscape. However, I have no clue where to start when wanting to draw a particular graph. I would want it to look something like this image: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3378 ... mandj8.png ; although I'd like the functionality to draw dotted lines when demand hits supply (in other words, equilibrium) to show what the "Price" and "Quantity" is. (Like in the first graph). Furthermore, I'd also like to know how to draw multiple graphs on one sheet. For example, show demand curve 1 and demand curve (2) which has shifted to the write. I am not worried about specific values: just "P" on the y-axis, and "Q" on the x-axis.

To be exact, I'd like a neat version of the graph entitled "Inelastic Demand" from this page:
http://faculty.winthrop.edu/stonebraker ... prices.htm (where there are two supply curves and one demand curve)

Thanks ;)

You start with the tutorial at Help->Tutorials->Inkscape: Basic

What you want is all pretty simple stuff, and you'd be better off learning it for yourself rather than having someone else tell you what to do.

Why not just generate a graph with a spreadsheet application?

You can try Open Office, a free (open source) office productivity suite that includes a word processor, presentation maker, spread sheet editor, and drawing application.

For a standalone spreadsheet program, try Gnumeric, which is also free.
