cut image outline

Postby kissnation2003 » Mon Apr 22, 2019 7:25 am

I'm trying to cut part of an image out so I can just use what I need. My problem is, after I use the bezier tool to do the out line and try and save it, it saves the whole image box. I am left with the image I cut but the original size of the photo remains with a lot of white in the box. I watched all the youtube vids on this and I just cant get this to cut out the right way. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Ae you using Clip? Just saying 'cut' is confusing, because there are several possible things you might be doing. it sounds like you are, because Clip just hides parts of the picture. Are you trying to reduce the file size? Shrink the page to the Clipped size? These are the only reason that the unseen parts of the picture would pose a problem.
Different solutions exist depending on whether you have vector or raster elements in your clipped object or if it is a mix of the two. If you post the file and the reason clip is not satisfactory it would be easiest to advise you.
Your mind is what you think it is.

I'm trying to just get the head image. Im trying to separate/crop out a head from my image When I use the path nodes and hit object clip set, the head does separate but I still get the box around where the full image was. ill have the head and a large white box around it.

it wont allow me to add a file here, its saying its too large

Two things you can do in your case.
1. Go into preferences/ bitmaps/ resolution for bitmap copy and change that to an appropriate number like 300 or even higher depending on how large your original is etc., then clip your picture and use edit > make a bitmap copy. Quality may suffer very slightly.

2. Crop the image before clipping to the rectangle containing only the parts you want.
You can do this outside Inkscape before importing, or in Inkscape with Extensions > Raster > Crop. The interface for this extension allows you to use a live preview to see the effect as you increase and decrease the values.

In fact you can even clip first, then select the image inside the clipping group by CTRL clicking it, the call the extension and use live preview to shrink the bounding box to where you want it before clicking apply. This last method is what I would recommend although it may be more work.
Your mind is what you think it is.

If you're still having trouble, there might be other ways to do what you want. So it still might be helpful to see your SVG file.

I'm thinking possibly a path operation might work. But it's hard to say without seeing the image.
