Desert Scene 2

Postby nils » Mon Sep 29, 2008 7:15 am

First draft:

The basic idea is "a lost city in a hilly desert terrain poking through the dust". It's not nearly done yet, just a start.

I love it also. Great colouring.

I have one criticism and that is that the city looks like it's in the wrong place in term of the scene's perspective. The position of the city give the impression that the hills behind it is more like a wall than a series of hills stretching far into the distance. I think raising the city would fix it. But having said that, I don't think the perspective of an scene always has to correct--distorting the perspective can have it's own artistic benefits :)

Thanks, guys.

I agree on the perspective, somewhat - it will never have the "right" perspective, as it's ultimately a 2d-drawing. But, yes, the city looks a little disconnected from the rest of the landscape.

Rearranged things a bit to improve that:

I like the strength of the new colours and the hills in front of city really helps how detatched the city looked.

I know. This is an ancient thread. But I am proud, beecause an indie author decided this thing was good enouggh to be used as a cover for his book: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E9G96W4

The price point probably helped (I just allowed him to use it), but still! It's pretty neat so see something I made on a book cover.

Congratulations, nils!

Well deserved!

Yeah, v1nce is one of our filter gurus :D Seems like I heard he'll have a lot of them in the next major version release -- I can't wait!

Thanks. Yeah I looked up what he does, it'll be cool to have them in Inkscape. I've never really done much with filters but I saw that my current install of Inkscape has tons of them.
