Changing UI Size for a 4k monitor

Postby madmax2230 » Sun Apr 12, 2015 11:15 am

So I recently bought a 4k monitor and Inkscape isn't very compatible with it. I want to make the text and windows bigger so I can actually understand what I'm seeing. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks for the help.

Well, I probably can't answer your question. But I am curious. I don't remember seeing any questions like this, in this forum.

A 4k monitor is like a computer monitor the size of a television? And when you maximize the Inkscape window, what happens? Does it fill the screen like on a regular size monitor? Any chance we could see a screenshot showing what you see?

Hi.

I have been using Inkscape on a 4K laptop for a while without "big" problems, only thing that does not scale properly is the cursors used for drawing etc, hopefully this will be fixed in later versions of Inkscape.
To get the icons to a "usable" size go to preferences - Interface and set the icon size to Large.

While at this preferences dialog set the Zoom Correction Factor to get the size of objects on the screen to match.
I have mine set to 125.98%, yours might need to be set differently depending on the screen DPI (Dots Per Inch).
When zooming to 1:1 an object on screen should match the "real" size, a rectangle set to 25mm should measure 25mm on screen.

If you want larger icons go to your Inkscape install directory/share/themes/MS-Windows/gtk-2.0 and rename the gtkrc to gtkrc_orig and then rename the file gtkrc-hidpi to gtkrc.
Good Luck!

In my setup, 1:1 refers to the Inkscape:Screen-pixel ratio. The zoom-correction is the value needed in the zoom control to display Inkscape:IRL ratio.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Might be worth explaining abbreviations when used for the first time like I have done for DPI (Dots Per Inch) - for a lot of the inkscape users English is NOT their mother-tounge.
IRL I presume is the same as In Real Life?

How do you set the screen magnification and Inkscape DPI?

How to use the units.xml file in the share/ui directory to "fine-tune" the Inkscape settings?
Good Luck!

I leave that alone. I'm unsure if changes there will lead to mismatch with other files and/or users.

Thanks for the responses! So I did everything you guys told me to, I changed the icon sizes to a reasonable size and changed the zoom correction to what my ruler says. However at 100% zoom the ruler doesn't match up to what is on my screen? Is there something else I need to do? Also the text is still a little to small to read so if you guys know of a way to make it larger that would be great! Thanks :)
