using union on grp of objects, image turns black

Postby wolfie17 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 9:21 pm

I am attempting to distress a logo. When I use union on a group of objects, the entire logo turns black. It doesn't fill in the image completely but the objects turn black. What am I doing wrong? also, is there a better way to distress a logo? I'm new to inkscape...obviously.

When you union objects you're basically converting them into a single path. A path can only have a single fill, which in this case means a single colour.

Depending on what exactly you mean by "distress", there are any number of approaches you could take, but I suspect filters might be the answer. If you can describe what you want to do in more detail - or perhaps include examples of the sort of effect you're looking for - we should be able to advise you better.

By distress I mean a worn, weathered or scratched look. I have a pattern I'm using to remove small portions of the logo.

If you already have a pattern to use, then I would suggest filling a rectangle with the pattern, and using it as a mask on the group.
