How useful is Inkscape if my ultimate goal is to learn adobe illustrator?

Postby harveywilham » Wed Jun 12, 2019 4:49 am

Hello Guys,

I am new here.
I want to become a designer in Adobe Illustrator. But its paid and pro.
I want to start with something free and powerful like Inkscape.

How useful is Inkscape if my ultimate goal is to learn adobe illustrator?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Not much.

If you learn inkscape you'll find illustrator an overpriced piece of software.
Admittedly if you want to produce one-step print ready materials illustrator has an advantage. But as far as basic drawing/Bézier path editing goes, inkscape is more user friendly. Hence you may not want to switch after learning.

The principles of vector drawing are the same so you can learn that in Inkscape. But if you apply for a job that requires 'Illustrator skills' your Inkscape experience will not substitute for that.
Your mind is what you think it is.
