how to create vector file out of png file without outlines

Postby gib65 » Sat Sep 07, 2019 2:46 pm

Hello,

I'm brand new to inkscape. I'm trying to use it to convert a png bitmap to a svg vector files.

Here's the original png:

Here's a screen shot of the svg:

How can I create an svg without the fuzzy outline? IOW, how to get the svg to look EXACTLY like the png?

Thanks.

The best method is to buy or download the font in question. This is probably Future Tense Regular by Borges, with a modified A. This avoids copyright issues.
The next thing is to ask the company for their logo in vector format, if you are doing work for them or using their products they would probably do it. However neither of the two companies using this name use this logo, so that's not going to work...
You may be setting up a business in, let's say, Zambia (where I found a company by this name without a logo), where you will not be worried about copyright issues. In that case you can hand trace or auto trace. Autotracing something this lowres is not very satisfying, as you can see, but may serve your purpose specially from an intermediate high contrast darkened version.
Hand tracing from scratch is easier than fixing the autotrace for someone experienced, especially with so many repeated letters and straight lines, but may be difficult for a beginner.

Thanks for the advice druban,

Sorry for not responding earlier but I've been busy.

I managed to find the original font and created a rather large png out of it. So long as it's large enough and I can shrink it on my website, I don't lose resolution.

However, it would still be good to be able to have an svg version of the file which doesn't take nearly as much space. You mentioned getting the font... was that because svg can be most easily created from fonts?

I`ll add that having a font is much better than having just an svg because having font makes the text editable. This way you don`t have to pick letter by letter to form a word or even sentence.

In IS, Ctrl+Shift+C converts selected text into a group of individual vectors
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

SVG made with a font will be sharp at any size, and the file size stays the same (small). With PNG to display large the file size also becomes large, or you have unsharp lettering
